Replacing the water pump on your evaporative cooler is necessary after extended use. An evaporative cooler , also known as a swamp cooler, uses water evaporation to produce cooler air and occasionally will need for the water pump to be replace once it decreases in efficiency or breaks down.

Before replacing the evaporative cooler unit's water pump, you will need to gather your tools which include the replacement water pump, screwdriver, wrench, clamps, and cloths for cleaning. It will be necessary to cut off the power supply before beginning work. Use the screwdriver to remove the panel which will give you access to the internal compartment.

First, pinch the water distributor hose using clamps to prevent water from entering the water pump. The wrench should be used to remove the water pump by loosening the bolts that hold it in place. Remove the water pump and place it to the side to be discarded.

Put the new water pump into the reservoir and connect the water distributor line to it. Unclamp the hoses and allow the water to flow into the pump prior to restarting the evaporative cooler unit.

While the unit is opened up, inspection of the motor can be conducted. It is wise to add oil to the motor to ensure that it works properly during this pump replacement. This is also a great opportunity to check the pulley belt for any damage and remove any stagnant water that has accumulated in the water tray.

Next, plug in the power cord and test the evaporative cooler out for a couple of minutes to guarantee that the unit is working properly. If you are satisfied with the outcome, the final step is to replace the access panel and tighten the screws to keep it in place.
