“After using several contractors, we are currently using MD Mechanical, LLC as our sole Heating and Air Conditioner repair and installation contractor. The choice was easy because of their prompt response to air conditioning problems in the hot season. Now our repairs are always done correctly the first time and at a lower cost than in the past. MD Mechanical consistently provides us with superior units on new installs and at a lower cost. They handled all the arrangements for removal of old units, freeing up valuable time for me as Service Manager.”

Contractors field testing new drop-in variable speed motor

Two contractors, one in Las Vegas, the other in Avondale, Arizona, are currently field testing a new variable speed drop-in replacement blower motor on the market by Emerson that claims utility savings, increased comfort and air filtration, as well as more even temperatures for homes in which the RESCUE EcoTech motor is installed.

“We actually started tested it last year and we had great success in the first three months.” said Victor Reichstien; contractor support team member for Emerson Climate Technologies. “The reason we gave it to contractors, is we wanted the contractors to see how easy it was to put in.”
Rick Wenzel, service manager at Interstate Plumbing and Air Conditioning in Las Vegas, had the motor installed in his home a few months ago.
“It slid right in, just like any blower motor change-out, bolted right up and the wiring was just plug-in and it was good to go.” explained Wenzel.

That the new motor requires no additional wiring or change to system controls is a benefit Emerson claims can go straight to a contractor’s bottom line, since it saves time and reduces chances of an improper install.
Wenzel claims he had already seen some savings on his own utility bill, but he has also found more even temperatures in his two-story home.

“My system truly needs to be a zoned system, but this motor balances it a little better.”
The motor can turn at five speed levels, and is run by static pressure and a DC controller inside the motor. Line voltage is converted to DC.

John Michel, general manager of MD Mechanical, LLC in Avondale, Arizona, had the motor installed in a sales representative’s home.

“It is a 20-minute install, as easy to install as an OEM unit,” said Michel, who added the motor has been installed for over a little over a month with good results.

“It cured a lot of problems. The home has a zone control system and the variable drive provides many benefits for that. We also put in a UV light. He has noticed a big difference in the quality of air in his home and temperatures are a lot more even than they were.”

Michel said it is a little too early to determine any cost benefit yet.
After about eight months, the motors will be pulled, returned to Emerson and analyzed for wear and performance.
